Parchment Riverfront

2021

Both Parchment proposals have been accepted for funding.  More details should be coming soon.

2020

In February 2020, the City submitted two grant proposals to the Kalamazoo River Natural Resource Trustee Council, to be funded by the PCB remidation settlement with NCR Corporation.  The purpose of the $25,000,000 settlement is to allow for the selectino of projects that will benefit injured natural resources and help compensate the public for lost recreational oportunities along the Kalamazoo River.  Read the draft plan here. The two Parchment proposals are Commerce Lane Railroad Trestle Remove and Bank Restoration (3.1.9. on page 34) and Parchment Restoration Plan / Urban Wildlife Corridor (3.1.13. on page 36).

2019

After two successfull gatherings of Kalamazoo Riverfront stakeholders (representing local business, government, education, wildlife preservation, and recreation interests), a Riverfront Coalition has formed with the mission to continue to reserve and promote the Kalamazoo River as a resource.  The group plans to meet annually.  Public forums will be held quarterly to discuss projects.

Of the many ideas generated at these meetings, we are starting with a plan to connect the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail (pedestrian/bicycle) on the west side of the river to the city via a pedestrian bridge.
